Windows Bug Threatens Computers

Thursday morning Microsoft released a patch for a newly discovered bug present in all Windows operating systems.

Apparently, this flaw in the system allows hackers to do whatever they want with a computer running on Windows, leaving the user helpless and blind sighted. The most vulnerable operating systems are Windows XP, 2000 and Server 2003. Vista and Server 2008 are also said to be vulnerable, but not as much as the ones previously mentioned.

The flaw lies in the part of Windows known as Server service and anyone who doesn’t share files or printers on a local network is advised to disable service.

The fact that Microsoft released a patch to fix the problem as soon as they discovered the problem gives away the seriousness of the problem as Microsoft is known to include everything in its monthly updates.

Apparently, this was not the case as customers are advised to download and install the new patch. Some say that because all of the commotion created over this system flaw, Microsoft has given hackers enough information to develop their own attack codes that could even break through the new security updates. Experts in this type of work say that it isn’t even that hard to exploit this weakness found in Windows operating systems.

The bug is actually a programming error that when occurs lets hackers access parts of the computer’s memory that aren’t usually accessible, write their own commands and by doing so taking over. Though the flaw is easily exploited, some say that with some touches to the network’s firewall such attack could be successfully prevented.
