Windows 7 Beta Still Available Due to Reported Success

Microsoft announced it will end availability of Windows 7 Beta on February 10. Regarding the official Windows 7 Team Blog, Windows Communications Manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, Brandon LeBlanc, happily let the whole world know: "Because enthusiasm continues to be so high for the Windows 7 Beta and we don't want anyone to miss out we will keep the Beta downloads open through February 10th. Customers who have started but not completed the download process will be able to do so through February 12th."

But as Microsoft has mentioned, it requires technical expertise; it isn't just software which you can install and uninstall in your system. Also, note that Windows 7 Beta has an expiration date of August 1, 2009 after which the OS will no longer function. And since it is a Beta, you can expect issues with the software at hand as well.

But this current move coming from the computer giant suggests that fewer than 2.5 million copies of the beta have been downloaded since Microsoft launched the Windows 7 preview January 10.

Apart from boasting about this OS’s general success, On Saturday, Microsoft declined to say whether the 2.5-million cap had been officially reached or surpassed, or to specify how many copies it has provided users to this point.

The deadline applies to the general public, while members of Microsoft's TechNet and MSDN developer programs will continue to have access to the code, LeBlanc said. A final version of Windows 7, Microsoft's follow-up to Windows Vista, is expected to be available in late 2009 or early 2010.
