During the Electronic Arts press event, Will Wright finally shed a bit more light on the upcoming Spore. He talked about the Spore Creature Creator, launched by the company on June 17. Both free and paid versions of the Creator were released last month. Back then, Will Wright estimated 100,000 creatures would be created by the game’s launch; however, it only took 22 hours to reach that number. After seven days, about one million were recorded and now, the company’s database has two million entries.
Up to this point, some 85,000 Spore clips have been uploaded on YouTube and there are no signs indicating that fans will slow down.
Will Wright mentioned the fact that the SETI Institute represented a major inspiration in the creation of the game. He said his company and SETI will be working closely in the near future.
Spore is an innovative game that will give creative individuals the chance to peek inside the depths of their very own personal galaxy. A "personal universe in a box," as it was described by EA people, Spore allows gamers to create entire worlds, while going through various stages of evolution, such as creating tribes and building civilizations.
The game was designed to take players through five different phases, each corresponding to an evolution stage: cell, creature, tribe, civilization and space. While going through the aforementioned phases, gamers will be facing a wide range of challenges.
Spore’s launch was initially expected to be set for 2007; even though the game has been worked on for three years now, problems have kept on coming up, thus delaying the project. So far, EA has reportedly invested about $80 million in the development of Spore.
