Will Wright, the man who has revolutionized the way the video games are played and the mastermind behind iconic titles like “SimCity” and “The Sims”, announced he is leaving Electronic Arts.
The game designer intends to be dedicated full time to its project, Stupid Fun Club, a gaming research and development company, who he has created in 2001.
As Wright said in a press statement, Stupid Fun Club will be centered on exploring new gaming concepts.
"The entertainment industry is moving rapidly into an era of revolutionary change. Stupid Fun Club will explore new possibilities that are emerging from this sublime chaos and create new forms of entertainment on a variety of platforms," he said.
However, Will Wright will continue to work with Electronic Arts, a company that will be an equity investor in Stupid Fun Club.
Will Wright has spent the last twelve years working for Electronic Arts, the former number one in gaming business. Activision Blizzard dethroned Electronic Arts and, recently, the company said its intention to cut 1,100 jobs.
The last game released by Will Wright under the Electronic Art’s brand is “Spore”, which features gameplay based upon the model of evolution.
Released in September 2008, “Spore” sold one million copies in the first three weeks. However, it didn’t do much for Electronic Arts, which reported a net loss for eight quarters in a row.
