According to a Dutch gaming developer, Engine Software, Wii
Ware, Nintendo’s response to online games download service such as Xbox Live
and PlayStation Neetwork, will be launched in March 2008.
WiiWare is a a game-creation service that will allow developers
large and small to create new downloadable video game content for sale by
Nintendo through the Wii Shop Channel. Players will be able to purchase
and download WiiWare games directly from the Wii Shop Channel in exchange for
Wii Points.
Wii Ware was announced last year in June by Nintendo, but Nintendo
wasn’t very specific neither about the pricing scheme, nor the launch date. It
was said only that the service was set for launch in early 2008.
The information was disclosed in a statement released about
the Dutch company about its first Wii Ware title. Engine Sotware is working on a
project, for now dubbed “Project Bang!”, which will be a casual game type with
very addictive gameplay using the unique Wii Remote controller functionality,
and will support a two-player battle mode, it was said.
Nintendo refused to make any comments on Engine Software’s
announcement. Nintendo has not made any official announcement regarding the
launch of the WiiWare service," said a Nintendo official for Next-Gen.
