Wii TV Ads Canceled In UK

In quite unusual news, Nintendo decided to pull out the UK TV Ads for its next-gen gaming console, Nintendo Wii.

According to MarketingWeek.co.uk, Nintendo has taken this decision because the demand is already to high and, even if the production has increased, the number of units shipped won’t meet the demand.

MarketingWeek is quoting a Nintendo spokesman who said: "We have been running the campaign all year round, but we want to take a responsible stance this Christmas and not fuel demand."

Instead of Wii ads, Nintendo decided to run ads to promote its handheld gaming console, Nintendo DS.

Last month

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal is running a story saying that Nintendo Wii is till hard to find in the US stores.

Last month in an interview for AP, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said the company is on track to sell 17.5 million Wiis in the fiscal year ending March 31. Last fall, Nintendo executives predicted they would sell 14.5 million Wiis.

Fils-Aime denied the rumors that Nintendo Wii’s shortages are only a marketing maneuver to attract more buyers. Although Nintendo has increased the production to 1,8 million units per month, the Nintendo executive said it’s unlikely they will be able to satisfy the demand.

Also, the Japanese company confirmed that 650,000 Nintendo Wiis were sold in US in just two weeks in November.

The company is currently evaluating how to distribute the consoles it is producing, in order to balance the different markets. The U.S. market is expected to absorb as many consoles as Nintendo can ship here.

According to the data released by Enterbrain, a Japanese research company, Japan is the only country where Playstation 3 outsold Wii during November.
