Wii Revives Legendary Game Pitfall

Even though the last game in the Pitfall series appeared in 2004, Nintendo’s Wii console has made Activision come up with the next chapter in the game franchise, Pitfall: The Big Adventure. The developer of this chapter will be Edge of Reality, the same company that developed the 2004 Pitfall: The Lost Expedition.

The action will be set in the Peruvian jungle, and the players will have to escape reptiles, explore caves, swing on vines and solve puzzles as they will work their way through the 60 levels of the game. As to what lies in front of them, there will be treasures to dig, strange creatures to battle or outwit and traps to escape.

The creators of the game think the Wii console’s motion sensing approach is the perfect fit for this kind of game. As far as the graphical limitations of the console are concerned, Activision and Edge of Reality are planning to give the game a “retro-cool” vibe, as Dave Oxford, Activision spokesman, stated cited by EuroGamer.

Pitfall has a two decade history, starting back in 1982 with the release of the first game on an Atari 2600 console. The game’s success lead to numerous sequels, the last of them, Pitfall: The Lost Expedition, being designed for the top consoles of 2004: GameCube, PS2 and Xbox.

Pitfall: The Big Adventure is scheduled to be released and will be ready for shipment in fall 2008.
