Wii Fit’s release in the United States was one of the most
talked about subjects in gaming press in the last couple of days. But just when
everybody was getting ready to go to the shops and get the much acclaimed videogame,
it was not there.
Ads stating that Wii Fit’s launch would take place on May 21
instead of May 19 were explained by Nintendo officials as referring to the
shipping delays that might have occurred, and Monday came together with the big
launch. The only problem was that the much awaited Wii Fit was for sale only in
Nintendo World Store located in New York, which was also the place where the
launching event was held. According to a store employee, it took less than one hour
for all the consoles to be sold.
While a few New Yorkers can already jump on their game’s balance
board, other fans that rushed to the shops were told they will have to wait
until Wednesday to get their hands on it.
Wii Fit is the latest game the genius creator Shigeru
Miyamoto came up with. Players can control the fitness routine of a game
character by actually doing the exercises themselves. This is accomplished with
the help of a board that measures the player’s shift in balance and then
transmits the information to the console via a wireless connection.
Some fitness instructors have declared to be fans of the
game, thinking it could be a way to make people more aware of their body and
their health. How much the Monday confusion will hurt Wii Fit’s image remains
to be seen, but chances are the game will still become one of this summer’s
hits.
