Life usually has a weird way of surprising people. The story of Donald Peters, a 79-year-old retired hat factory worker, is both ironic and shocking. The man bought a winning lottery ticket on the day he died, leaving his family $10 million.

Peters bought the lottery ticket on November 1st, just before he suffered a heart attack that caused his death. His wife, Charlotte Peters, found the ticket and checked the numbers. After she found out that the ticket was worth $10 million she declared she was numb, in awe. The family has been left with the grief of losing a caring member and with a lot of money.

Relatives declared that Donald Peters would have appreciated the irony that this situation brings. Charlotte and Donald had a 20-year tradition of buying lottery tickets. In her grief, she put aside and nearly discarded the ticket, one among many, before recently checking the numbers.

This all sounds like the script of a very dark comedy, and it is hard to accept that anyone would really have the bad luck of dying before cashing in a lottery ticket worth $10 million. The family has no plans yet of what to do with the money, Charlotte declaring that she always wanted a Corvette.

The money will certainly be put to good use, as it can provide a solid collage fund for the their children and it will certainly provide a good defense against this aggressive financial crisis the world is going through.
