Wi-Fi TV to ‘Aggressively’ Enter World’s Largest Web Market–CHINA

Wi-Fi TV Inc. announced its plans concerning the Chine web market in a series of webcasts shot in Beijing and Los Angeles which now can be found at www.Wi-FiTVlLive.com.

The move comes as China has grown into the world’s largest Internet market with 253 million web users. The number of users was measured at the end of last month by China Network Information Center, which made the announcement on Thursday. The Chinese number of web users has grown with 43 million in the first six months of this year. Meanwhile, the United States number of web users also grew to 230 million at the end of June from 218 million last year according to a statement released by the Chinese agency on its web site.

Research firm Nielsen Online estimated that the United States had 223.1 million Internet users in June.

Considering the above mentioned statistics, Wi-Fi TV made clear its plans to “aggressively enter the China market.” The company is currently making efforts toward the implementation of its next generation web site and is also adding new exclusive station content frequently at www.Wi-FiTV.com.

The numbers are impressive all right, but the real growth in China’s web market is just starting. According to China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the figures presented above are the equivalent of only 19.1% of the Chinese public using the Internet, the Wall Street Journal reported. And this is happening while the Chinese government is making considerable efforts to block access to sites considered subversive or pornographic. But when the country has a population over 1.3 billion, even a small slice of that enormous pie is enough to become a world leader.

"Nearly 23.8 million Internet users use online payment services, up 71.7 percent from half a year ago; 28.9 percent of Internet users have used their mobile phones to go online within the last six months; and mobile Internet users now number more than 73 million," said the CNNIC report according to a translation from China Web 2.0 Review.

The most popular services in China’s web market are online music (84.5 % usage rate) and E-mail (62.6 % usage rate).

The financial facts and figures are even more impressive: the total earning of Chinese internet companies were of $5.9 billion in 2007 while in the U.S. online advertising revenues alone over the same period were of $21.2 billion.

Giant companies such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and other can’t and surely won’t miss this huge unexploited potential.
