MTV seems to enjoy spinoffs. Whitney Port, a supporting character on the network’s “The Hills” will debut tonight as the lead persona of another reality spinoff.
As the fourth season of “The Hills” has just ended and sent Whitney Port to New York, “The City” will observe how she copes with the job she recently received as an aide of renowned designer Diane von Furstenberg.
In addition, the new show, which is scheduled to premiere tonight at 10, will focus on her life in the big city, the people she bumps into or who she sees again, personal and professional bonds, as well as a previous long-distance relationship with Jay.
Whitney Port explained in an interview with Newsday that she was very excited about getting her own show and that being in the spotlight represented a “great career opportunity” for her.
Whitney Port also said that MTV began negotiations with her “quite some time ago,” but that they did not reach a clear deal until summer, in spite of the fact that talks had been going on for almost a year.
However, when they came to a conclusion, Whitney Port, who is a graduate of Crossroads School, just like “The Hills” co-star Spencer Pratt, was extremely “nervous,” since she had strived to keep her personal life away from the reality program. In addition, she explained that it felt odd to open up about her private life as part of her career.
She said that she took the decision after she asked her family and friends for advice and concluded that the show was a great step forward.
