Whitney Houston made everyone remember why she is still considered one of the best voices in show biz. “The Voice,” as she was dubbed, took the stage at a pre-Grammy party honoring music tycoon Clive Davis, Houston’s mentor, and surprised everyone in a very good way.
The 45-year-old singer looked and sounded as fresh as she did about ten or twenty years ago and the audience loved it. The performance is a clear sign that Whitney Houston is back after a few years ago she fell from grace due to drug problems and erratic behavior.
The audience of A-list superstars and industry magnates hoped that Houston would fix her damaged image and she did.
"We all crossed our fingers that her beautiful story would end (happily)," said Jamie Foxx. "This is a new beginning."
One could see that Whitney Houston knew her performance was a hit right after she sang the opening song, a short version of her super hit “I Will Always Love You.” She then delighted the audience whit a set of her greatest songs and ended the show in a very positive and emotional note with her song “I’m Every Woman.”
Several industry voices said that Whitney had lost her beautiful voice, but she dismissed those rumors at the Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash.
The show also included performances from singers like Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Josh Groban, the Kings of Leon, and Sean Puffy Combs featuring Faith Evans in the evening’s one slip-up.
Clive Davis received a Lifetime Achievement award at the dinner held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel ballroom.
