What Should Kids Know About Santa?

Unfortunately for the more religious aspects of the holidays, Santa Claus will always be the one to make Christmas the most anxiously expected holiday all year-round. You must remember how exciting it was to leave out milk and cookies for Santa, then go to bed and find it nearly impossible to go to sleep because of all the excitement. And then, of course, came the wonderful moment when you found the presents under the tree, just waiting for you to tear open the wrapping paper.

Most parents try to keep the Santa story looking as real as possible for many years. Others think that telling them Santa Claus is real is no different than straight-out lying – how can one educate their child not to lie when during the first years of their lives they hear the most lies they will ever hear in their whole life?
It seems like the debate won’t end very soon, as both sides have very strong arguments, not to mention the passion they show when discussing their children’s education.

One of the most controversial issue occurs in multicultural, multiracial and multi-faith areas, namely that children of other religions or atheists might not celebrate Christmas, which is the most media-covered holiday, given the preponderance of Christians.

Former child care director Dawn Fry warns that many non-Christian children feel excluded, and that leads to pain. It’s hard to explain why only the Christian kids in the neighborhood are considered “good” by a fat jolly man dressed in red, who brings them presents.

The solution seems to be to explain to children that all religions have their game, and that Santa is part of the Christian game, and it’s not nice to ruin the game of a family. She wants children to enjoy Christmas and Santa, but to realize that it’s basically just make belief.
