“Spore” is the eagerly expected strategy game that makes you
feel like you’ve got the whole world in your hands. The Electronic Arts game is
due for release in stores and online for PCs and Macs this Sunday. The game’s
notoriety and quality need no further arguments – it comes from the man behind
the blockbuster Sims franchise, Will Wright.
“Spore” is great indeed due to its unbelievable originality.
It cost Electronic Arts $50 million to make and it took them six years to
develop it.
It could also be included in the same genre as “The Sims” or
“SimCity,” that is the genre of the sandbox games, in which players can create
their own cities, homes and families.
“Sims” is the best-selling video game in history, by the
way.
Electronic Arts also had a great promoting campaign for the
game as they began introducing players to the concept beginning in June, when
they released its Spore Creature Creator, a software program that lets players
design their own critters and upload them to the Web for others to see. The
creatures can then be used to populate the actual game.
Michael Pachter, analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, told
Reuters that he expected Electronic Arts to ship 3 million copies of
"Spore" at $120 million wholesale, with consumers snatching up to 2
million copies this year.
Electronic Arts also announced the upcoming "Spore
Origins," a game from the series designed specifically for the Apple
iPhone and iPod touch.
All in all, “Spore” is a fabulous game that allows you to
direct the life and development of an organism from its cell stage all the way
to its exploration and dominance of the galaxy.
