External storage solutions provider Western Digital today introduced its latest My Book World Edition storage drive, ideal for home networks. The company is aiming at the 36 million networked homes in the United States, according to estimations by research firm Parks Associates.
The storage solution will be available in 1 and 2 terabyte capacities, and will be compatible with both Macs and PCs, according to the company. The drive is capable of automatically backing up files from all computers on the network, so that any changes made will be automatically saved.
In addition to that, My Book World Edition allows files to be streamed directly from the My Book World Edition drive to any PC, Mac or connected DLNA media player in the house (this includes game consoles, such as Xbox or PS3, but also wireless digital picture frames and TVs).
Media collections and personal files will now be easier to store and organize, making their centralization less of a pain. My Book World Edition was designed to do it all, from offering secure access to the files, to organizing them, even when the owners are in remote locations (via the Internet).
Western Digital confirmed that My Book World Edition are already available in stores (the 1TB version), while the 2 TB version will become available later this month via their online store, or at select retailers. The prices are $229.99 USD for the 1 TB version, and $449.99 USD for the 2 TB version.
