According to Nielsen SoundScan Bruce Springsteen’s latest album “Working on a Dream” sold 224,000 copies during the week ended on the 1st of February which set the Boss on the first position on The Billboard 200 chart.
After spending seven consecutive weeks at the top of the US album chart, Taylor Swift’s "Fearless" has been ousted by Springsteen’s ninth chart-topper. Beyonce's "I Am ... Sasha Fierce" came third while Nickelback's "Dark Horse” fourth and Kanye West's "808s & Heartbreak" at No. 5.
Springsteen is now overcome only by the Beatles with 19 number one albums, Elvis Presley with 10 and Jay-Z also with 10.
The first-week sales for "Working on a Dream" were off 33% compared to the opening frame of his last studio set, 2007's "Magic," which also debuted at No. 1. And it makes perfect sense in a way, since “Dream” is not nearly as good as “Magic” but the rocker went on against all odds suggesting in "What Love Can Do," that sometimes hope and good intentions can be enough. He was right!
The songs on "Dream" is overwhelmingly uplifting, expressing the narrator’s state of grace achieved only after moving through long, lean years of pain and disappointment.
Bruce Springsteen’s 24th album has received a five-star rating from Rolling Stone magazine while other reviews were not so enthusiastic about it, saying that it does not sound like the singer at all, which is quite an odd sensation considering that when you hear Springsteen's music you are always keenly aware of his persona - his history, his politics, his voice.
But Springsteen is obviously very excited by his new material and he has all the reasons in the world to be.
