If you need to spice up your sex life, a slice of watermelon may be the answer.

According to scientists with the Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, one of the nation’s top producers of the seedless variety, the juicy fruit contains an organic compound that acts somewhat similar to sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in Viagra.

Citrulline, as this compound is named, triggers the production of an amino acid known as arginine that helps relax the body’s blood vessels the same way Viagra does when taken to treat erectile dysfunction or to prevent it. However, arginine is not as powerful organ-specific as Viagra is, but the good news is that it has no side effects, Bhimu Patil, a researcher and director of Texas A&M’s Fruit said, according to the Associated Press.

The good news is that arginine can also help with angina, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems.

However, when it comes to watermelon and sex life, the researchers, working under a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, said people should not expect at “magical” results after consuming watermelon.

As for the quantity needed to boost the body’s arginine level in order to have the desired effect, the researchers said you would need to eat above six cups of watermelon to get enough citrulline.

Such quantity would make you visit the bathroom too many times, as watermelon is known to be a great diuretic and this might ruin your big night.

However, if eaten in moderate quantities on daily basis, watermelon may not only improve your sex life but may also improve your general health, as the fruit provides the body a wide range of useful compounds such as vitamin C and Vitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin B1, as well as the minerals potassium and magnesium.
