Pure Digital Technologies Inc. released today the follow-up
to their Flip point-and-shoot camcorder. Their first recorder, released a year ago, managed
to change the perception about video recording, greatly simplifying the
process.
The device allowed videos to be rapidly sent through emails, its size was as small as a digital camera's and cost about $150. The issues
concerning the product were mainly related to its design and its reduced maneuverability
caused by the push-down buttons.
An update was attempted by the company with the release of
Flip Ultra, but the response was rather insignificant.
The new model, named Flip Video Mino, managed to repair most
of its predecessor’s flaws, offering a cleaner and more elegant look, a rechargeable
Li-ion battery, touch-sensitive buttons and a thinner appearance, being about
40 percent smaller than the Flip cam recorder.
The Flip Mino also presents a feature that enables video
publishing on MySpace, as the prior software only allowed video sharing with
YouTube and AOL Video. The device makes it very easy for users to edit their
videos, as reviewing and trimming only take a few minutes. It also features
a lock button for the delete option in order to avoid the accidental delete of
videos and a mute option for all camera sounds useful for recording during
speeches, weddings or other quiet events.
The screen size is the same as Flip Ultra’s, 1.5 inches and the
price is set at $180.
Taking into consideration its users’ feedback, the company
announced its efforts to produce starting next year a brand new device with a
larger screen size and a high definition video recording option.
