This year’s Thanksgiving was probably one of the worst for
professional wrestling and reality TV star Hulk Hogan, who was informed about
his divorce from the press.
According to the St. Petersburg Times, Hulk Hogan, whose
real name is Terry Bollea, was in shock after finding out his wife Linda Bollea
had filed for divorce last week after 23 years of marriage.
Like countless other reality show couples before them, the
two who star together with their kids Nick, 17, and Brooke, 19, on VH1’s
reality show “Hogan Knows Best” experienced marriage trouble earlier this year and
started going to marital counseling. In recent episodes of the series, Hulk and
Linda are shown attending counseling together and reconciling.
Hogan reportedly told the newspaper he was struck by the
news and that his wife had been away for three weeks.
Reached by phone on Friday night, Hogan, who was informed
the paperwork was submitted on Tuesday, politely said “Thank you for the great
information,” and hung up, only to call shortly after and explain.
“I’m kind of shocked,” he said. “You caught me off-guard. My
wife has been in California
for about three weeks. … Holy smokes.”
“You just knocked the bottom out of me. … I just pulled over
to the side of the road for five minutes to find out what was going on here,”
he added.
After coming to his senses, Hogan refused to talk about the
divorce calling it his “private business.”
In April this year, a report in The National Enquirer
claimed that Hogan met with a divorce lawyer to end his marriage to Linda.
At that time, the publication quoted a source as saying, “Wrestling
superstar Hulk Hogan, 53, has secretly consulted a divorce lawyer about ending
his 23-year marriage with his wife Linda. Despite that, the two are still
together taping the fourth season of the reality show ‘Hogan Knows Best.’”
”The marriage is over. The show is the glue that's keeping them together,” the
same source told National Enquirer. “It's Hulk who wants out. With the kids
grown, he feels it's time to move on. They're not hiding their problems from
the cameras. But what hasn't been filmed is the fact that Hulk secretly
consulted a divorce attorney.”
Before the 2005 launch of “Hulk Knows Best,” which basically
focuses on the family and professional life of the Hogans, the wrestler was
quoted by People magazine as saying “My wife and I are very intense, very
passionate, very loving. Our family is pretty basic and old school, and now
we've kind of become cool because we're just as intense as anyone else, but we
run a really tight ship.”
