Warren Jeffs, the polygamist sect leader, was released Wednesday
from a Nevada
hospital. He stayed there for a day. According to The Associated Press, the
leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was
hospitalized Tuesday because he was weakened and “convulsive,” but he returned
to jail the next day.
Police Officer Jose Montoya said that he didn’t know if
Warren Jeffs had been taken to another prison or to the same facility in Arizona.
“He is no longer in the hospital, but I wouldn't be able to
tell you if he got transferred to another facility or back to Arizona,” said Jose Montoya, according to Deseret
News.
A sheriff’s spokeswoman said that, Tuesday, the polygamist
sect leader was in a “weakened state of health, acting in a convulsive manner,
shaking, and running a fever” and was first taken to Kingman Regional
Medical Center.
Afterwards, he was transported to Sunrise
Hospital and Medical
Center in Las Vegas.
Although the doctors didn’t say what his diagnosis was, Trish
Carter, sheriff's spokeswoman, said that Jeffs was not in any danger. The Police
Department released a statement, saying that Warren Jeffs had guards to
watch him while he was being treated for an unknown medical condition.
The polygamist sect leader was convicted last year on two counts
of first-degree felony rape. He was convicted in November, being
sentenced to two consecutive terms of five years to life in Utah.
He allegedly tried to kill himself while he was waiting for his sentence. He
also refused food and water for a whole month and he hurt his knees because he
used to kneel in prayer for hours.
Warren Jeffs was treated in a Utah prison infirmary in February 2007
because he had some health problems caused by the lack of food.
