Singer R. Kelly missed a court appearance yesterday due to
the fact that his bus was stopped by police in Utah State.
R. Kelly is facing charges of child pornography, after he
was accused in 2002 of filming himself having sex with a girl of 14 years old.
He pleaded not guilty, but ever since the case was opened he
has to ask permission every time he leaves the state of Illinois, United Press International
reports.
Because he missed a court date in Chicago
on Wednesday, Judge Vincent Gaughan issued a warrant on R. Kelly’s name, but
gave the R&B star time until Thursday at 9 a.m. to be in a court in Cook County, Illinois.
If by that time he doesn’t appear, the warrant will go into effect.
Cook
County Assistant
State's Attorney Shauna
Boliker said: "This is just an abuse of the process. It's disrespectful of
your honor," MTV.com informs.
According to R. Kelly’s attorney, Ed Genson, the bus was
stopped by police because of some snow, after a concert in Sacramento, California.
Genson told Gaughan that the singer did his best in trying to make it to court
on time.
Apparently the police found that the logs of Kelly’s tour
bus weren’t filled correctly and that the driver looked exhausted and was
forced to take a rest at a hotel, according to Daily Herald. This made the
group delay by eight hours.
Kelly’s lawyers said that he was at two hours distance from
the Cook County courthouse on Wednesday at 10.30.
