The team behind the upcoming “X-Files” sequel, scheduled for a July 25 release, is preparing fans for what is to come by sharing bits and pieces about the project.
Chris Carter, director of the upcoming “X-Files” sequel, and co-writer Frank Spotnitz were present Wednesday at the 25th annual William S. Paley Television Festival and revealed a trailer for the much-anticipated film.
It featured snow, running, a large syringe and a helicopter, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film’s name has not been revealed yet and Carter commented that while he has a clear idea of what he would name the film, the studio thinks differently, all the while declining to offer a clue. “I know what I want it to be, but Fox has ideas of their own,” Carter was quoted by the Reporter as saying. “I know what it should be.”
Carter is the creator of the cult series than ran from 1993 to 2002 on Fox.
The two actors that starred in the original series and will be forever associated with the television phenomenon, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, are also returning as
FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Duchovny and Gillian also starred in the 1998 film adaptation “The X-Files: Fight the Future.”
The sequel will pick up six years after the end of the series and will not be based on the alien mythology theme of the TV series but rather focus on the standalone “Monster-of-the-Week” kind of episodes.
“It will not be a mythology movie, but it’s true to everything that’s come before,” Spotnitz assured the audience. “It’s true to Mulder and Scully, who they are and where they would be this point in their lives and all of the experiences that they’ve had.”
The finished trailer will debut in movie theaters along with Iron Man on May 2, a Fox spokesman told SCI FI Wire.
