War of Words Between Fatah and Hamas Continues

After Hamas seized control of Gaza, the feud with Fatah continues on a politic level with both factions accusing each other of undertaking illegal actions against their supporters.

Hamas said on Saturday that its partisans are being harassed by Fatah security forces in the West Bank and are being arrested by Israeli troops without solid reasons.

“The security war, waged by the occupation and the gangs of the Palestinian security services, has expanded to target the Islamic associations and charities,” the Palestinian militant organization said.

Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian National Authority and prominent Fatah figure decided to pull out his party from the unity administration formed with Hamas after the June conflict and formed  new caretaker government headquartered in the West Bank.

Since then, several Hamas members and supporters have been detained in a move designed to prevent an eventual action that would destabilize the Fatah regime, as the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) said.

Abbas’ supporters has also been detained in Gaza by Hamas forces, Fatah said. The last action of this kind took place Friday evening in the north-eastern city of Beit Hanoun.

Reports from Gaza informed that more than a dozen Fatah members were arrested by Hamas forces for allegedly breaking laws imposed by the same Islamic movement.
