As we are facing another holiday season with Nintendo’s Wii
in high demand, Wal-Mart is ready to help thousands of casual gamers get their
desired gaming console.
In a press statement, the retail giant announced that it
will offer "tens of thousands" of the video game consoles on its
website starting on Monday.
The price of a Nintendo Wii is $249.24 and Wal-Mart will
also offer a “value bundle” which includes the console and other items like an
extra set of controllers for $329.
The offer will be available until the supplies will be
exhausted.
"We're thrilled to be able to provide more customers
the opportunity to experience and enjoy the Nintendo Wii this Christmas,"
said Kelly Thompson, Walmart.com chief merchant.
Last year, Nintendo was unable to meet the demand of its Wii
and it seems like this year the company will face the same problem.
According to the figures released by eBay for BlackFriday,
Nintendo Wii was the most sold item. The customers bought 3,171 Nintendo Wiis
for an average selling price of $349. The second spot in the shopper’s
preferences went to Wii Fit, which sold 1,059 units for an average price of
$140.
Last month, the gaming publisher and market data provider
Enterbrain announced that since its release the total of Wii sales in Japan
has reached 7,024,239 units.
In fact, despite the economic downturn, Nintendo Wii
continues to be a bestseller even in US. According to the latest data released
by the NPD Group, only in October, Nintendo sold 803,000 Wiis in the United
States.
