Sunday night, when the moment of the truth comes, some will well up in joy and excitement and some will be biting their lips in envy, disappointment and frustration because they got snubbed.
The Academy Awards ceremony is bound to bring forth some surprises, even though many have already picked their winners and they believe that they will be seeing them walk on stage to receive their honors on Sunday.
One movie that could come to disappoint and against almost all odds, go home empty-handed is “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” which although has managed to get a leading thirteen Oscar nods, did not win any major prizes until now besides the three trophies it was awarded at the British Academy Film Awards last week.
The number of nominations „Benjamin Button” has received makes him tie with eight previous movies for the second position on the most Academy Awards nods in history list.
In the past, all ten productions with 13 nominations went home with at least four Oscars, which means that if „Benjamin Button” gets snubbed on Sunday, it will become a major failure, swiping the loser tag from 1977’s „The Turning Point,” which holds the record with 0 wins for 11 nods.
Following the aforementioned movie is 1985's „The Color Purple,” with a 0 for 10 score.
So far, „Benjamin Button” was shut out at both the Golden Globe Awards and the Screen Actors Guild honors, whereas producers, writers and directors favored Danny Boyle’s „Slumdog Millionaire” over it.
