WSJ: Steve Jobs Still In Charge At Apple

Despite being on medical leave until June, Steve Jobs is still involved in Apple’s efforts to create and launch new products, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Quoting people familiar with the matter, WSJ noted that Steve Jobs is reviewing products and product plans on regular basis and apparently he was involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month.

In January, Steve Jobs announced in a press statement that he will leave his day-to-day duties at Apple to take care of his health. The health of Apple’s boss was constantly a subject for the tech and mainstream media, but there are few details known about his health problems.

In the letter announcing his temporary leave from Apple, Steve Jobs mentioned something about a “hormone imbalance”, which has caused a serious weight lost, but no other details were made public.

Steve Jobs is expected to return to his daily duties at the end of June, but Apple confirmed nothing so far. There were rumors and speculations that Steve Jobs could make a surprise appearance at Apple’s WWDC that is scheduled in the second week of June, but Apple stayed mum on this possibility.

For the moment Jobs’ day-to-day duties are handled by Tim Cook, Apple Chief Operating Officer. There are wide speculations that Apple could unveil in June a new device, a netbook which will be larger than iPhone, but smaller than Apple’s current laptops.

Apple is known for its secrecy regarding new products and developments and, as usual, the company declined to comment about WSJ’s report.
