Vudu is now officially the first on-demand service provider to sell high-definition movies to consumers. For starters, there are 50 HD titles to choose from, and users can either rent them or download to own them.
This is a really big step ahead for Vudu, since its offering will make the difference for consumers. Who isn’t tired of just renting movies, especially since there are titles out there that you would just want to watch again and again?
Vudu comes to fulfill that wish. The movie it offers will be available for purchase in both HD and HDX format, and best of all, for the same price. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the 50-title library expand. So far, Vudu has a total of 1,400 HD movies to choose from (for rental).
Edward Lichty, Vudu EVP of Strategy and Content, said in a statement:
Consumers are clamoring for the ability to own digitally-delivered titles in high definition, especially in our HDX format, and we are excited to be the first in the industry to meet his consumer need.
He also said this should be a watershed event for the industry as well, marking the studios’ recognition of and confidence in digital delivery as an increasingly important part of their business.
Vudu is the only provider of both HD and HDX formats. The movie prices range from $13.99 to $23.99. Among the titles available for purchase, Vudu mentioned Man on Wire, Transsiberian and War, Inc.
