Lazard's analyst Colin Sebastian surveyed the growing sales on the gaming industry around the period of Thanksgiving. He noted as he analyzed data from comScore that video games and hardware sales on Thanksgiving presented a 29 percent growth. The sales on the following day were also up to 22 percent year over year.
There was also a massive year-on-year sales boost of 134 percent in case of video games, consoles and accessories, according to comScore. On the other hand online Consumer Electronics sales increased only by 21 percent, the same survey presented. This Thanksgiving, the analyst noticed that Nintendo’s Wii, music games Activision’s Guitar Hero III and MTV’s Rock Band, which is distributed by Electronic Arts, experienced supply shortages.
The comScore report refers to all retail sectors and showed that the fastest online sales growing products were video games and furniture/appliances. Although, throughout the year online sales have decreased by 3.5 percent each year, the amount spent actually increased by 12 percent.
Among video games Nintendo Wii Console was the top-selling product for Black Friday while Activision’s Guitar Hero III placed as fourth among the high sellers. In this category entered also Microsoft’s Zune player, the TomTom GPS system, and Canon digital cameras.
