Recently, astronauts and space tourists returning from the International Space Station have undergone rough landings and gravitational force upon returning from their trips. The Russian Soyuz capsule, for instance, flew off-course and entered the Earth’s atmosphere a bit further away from the planned entry-point. This event occurred two consecutive times during last year’s flights.
Space trip new-comer and U.S. video game mogul Richard Garriott is one of the new space tourist who will board the Russian spaceship scheduled to launch this Sunday. The millionaire paid a whopping $30 million for his space-ticket and for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly into space. However, considering Garriott’s fortune, this experience might be one he will repeat in the future.
Asked about his feeling regarding a possibly rough landing, the millionaire seemed quite disdainful and dismissive. Garriott seems doubtful that he will experience a forceful return, but in that case, he doesn’t think it will be bothersome to him. The prospect of flying into space seems to have eliminated all related worries from Garriott’s mind.
These are his statements before traveling into space, but will they be just as optimistic and worry-free upon his return? Let us turn our attention to a South Korean space tourist who flew into space in April. After her landing, she stated that she feared for her life when the ship took the wrong course and basically crashed in central Kazakhstan in a rapid, vertical descent. The reason why Garriott seems to be at ease concerning his up-coming space trip is that his father is the much celebrated NASA astronaut Owen Garriott. On this space trip, Garriott will be accompanied by U.S. astronaut Michael Fincke and Russian cosmonaut Yury Lonchakov.
The three men will conduct a series of scientific tests after arriving at the International Space Station. They will return to Earth with another returning International Space Station crew on October 24th.
