Jurors in the Victoria Osteen case, where the wife of mega
church Pastor Joel Osteen had been accused of physical and verbal abuse by a
Continental Airlines flight attendant decided that she was not guilty of any
assault whatsoever. Sharon Brown, the Continental Airlines flight attendant who
filed the accusations, was suing for at least $405,000. There was indeed a
quarrel over a stain found on Osteen’s first-class seat, but it’s too much from
flight attendant Sharon Brown to claim that she was thrown against a bathroom
door and elbowed in the left breast while attempting to rush the cockpit.
"I'm glad it's over," Victoria Osteen said
afterward. "I expected it because it's the truth and I know the truth
always stands firm."
The “attack” took place before the start of a December 2005
flight from Houston to Vail, Colorado.
Victoria Osteen's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, dismissed Brown's accusations as being
made-up with the clear purpose of getting her hand on the money, and labeled
Brown's claims that she suffered injuries such as post-traumatic stress
disorder a ``sacrilege'' and a ``blasphemy.''
Both Victoria Osteen and Joel Osteen, who was on the same
flight, testified last week that no attack took place. A former Continental flight
attendant also testified that Brown brought her the same accusations in
November 1995.
Houston's Lakewood Church
where Joel Osteen works as a pastor, draws about 42,000 people each week for
services. Joel Osteen's weekly television address is broadcast in the U.S. and
internationally and his books are sold worldwide.
