Verne Troyer, the actor who played Dr. Evil's Mini-Me in the last two Austin Powers movies, reportedly sued TMZ.com for posting parts of a sex tape he recorded with his former girlfriend.
Troyer filed the multimillion-dollar federal lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court in downtown L.A. He accuses TMZ of violating his privacy rights and infringing on his copyright and trademark by running segments of the tape on their Web site. Troyer also sued TMZ for violating his right of publicity and for misappropriating his name and likeness.
The 39-year-old said he sent several letters to the TMZ.com administration before and after the recording appeared on the Web site. In his letters, Troyer asked TMZ not to show the footage from the sex tape, but his letters were ignored.
Troyer also named Kevin Blatt, the guy who distributed "One Night in Paris," in the suit. “Mini-me” said his sex tape was stolen and somehow ended in the hands of Blatt, who’s known for his celeb-porn brokering ways. According to Troyer, Blatt is now entertaining a $100,000 distribution offer from SugarDVD, a film rental company also named as a defendant in the suit.
Troyer is seeking $20 million in damages plus the attorneys' fees and an injunction prohibiting any further showing of the video.
