Denny Strigl, Verizon’s chief operating officer, made some interesting announcements about its Fios service at the NXTcomm08 telecommunications conferences on Wednesday.
It seems that Verizon will be enhancing the speed of its service in the states where the company operates, other that New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts or Rhode Island, in which the service already provides higher speeds.
People who will subscribe for the fastest version of the service will have download speeds of 50 Mbps and uploads at 20 Mbps and will have to pay $139.95 per month. Verizon clients who already have signed a contract with the carrier company can still keep their service plans if they want to.
The sums of money people have to pay now for the service Verizon offers are a little smaller that the price of new and faster services. What is more, after the contract with a person which is already a Verizon client expires, he or she will be given the possibility of opting for the same service plan that he or she had before.
Another important announcement that Verizon made regards the company’s high hopes of getting the approval for deploying its Fios service in New York City. If this happens, and Verizon is confident that it will, the company says that it will reach over 3 million households within the next six years.
The company sees great possibilities in providing Fios service in big cities, and especially in areas where people live in blocks of flats, because this way it can reach more people while wiring a smaller distance.
