Verizon Wireless has introduced an online music store that also futures over-the-air video games and an apps storefront. The company took the wraps off the new Verizon Media Store yesterday at the CTIA Wireless show.
The Verizon Media Store features more than 5 million mp3s that can be downloaded and a big number of ring tones as well. You can download the mp3 tracks on any device that is mp3 compatible. You can also visit the Mobile Web Games and the Apps Store to preview, sample and buy video games or applications and download them directly to your mobile WAP and HTML running device.
As for the pricing, the new release will cost you $1.29 per track, while the bulk of the mp3s will be available for $0.99. The classic catalog tracks can be downloaded for $0.69.
And more good news about the Verizon Media Store: almost all the mp3s are DMR (digital rights management) free.
The unveiling of the Verizon Media Store comes just one day after the company said that there are too many operating systems (OS) for mobile phones and it would like to see their number withheld down.
During an interview at the CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas, Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam said there are currently eight or nine different OSs and in a couple of year he hopes the number will be reduced to about three or four. McAdams insisted, however, that Verizon will not “shun” one OS in favor over another OS.
