A recent report announced that Verizon Communications and
Google are closing in on a partnership which will enable the broadband and
telecommunications company to use the search giant’s services on its wireless
unit. The two have been going back and forth about a possible alliance for
almost a year now, and considering the fact that the implementation process
will also demand a certain period of time, a conclusion should be reached soon.
Verizon is one of the country’s most popular telecommunications
companies, providing several services, including voice, voicemail, video and
data, and a new add-on to its list would only make its customers happy and also
attract new business.
The upcoming deal was reported by the Wall Street Journal and
even though the details are unknown at this point, it seems that Google will
share revenue from the service. A highly debated issue is whether the company
will be allowed to keep the information about the users’ searches.
The constant evolution of technology enables new companies
to venture into the industry, offering new and exciting features. These
collaborations on one hand provide users with useful applications and on the
other hand represent a major financial gain for the providers.
A similar move has already been done by rival company Yahoo,
which signed several such mobile phone software deals with mobile operators,
including the largest U.S. mobile phone company AT&T.
Neither Google nor Verizon are currently available for
comments, so until an official statement will be released the news will keep
its ‘rumor’ status.
