Disney’s “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens has been sued for an alleged $150,000 debt in legal fees.
The 18-year-old actress and singer who has been at the center of an odd nude photo scandal these past few weeks is now being sued for not having paid legal fees in two years.
According to the Associated Press, attorney Brian Schall filed a lawsuit Monday, Sept. 17, claiming Vanessa had agreed to pay him 5 percent of her earnings in exchange for his legal representation since October 2005.
He says that in the time elapsed, the young actress has earned more than $5 million but has failed to pay him a balance of $150,000 in legal fees, according to the lawsuit.
Vanessa, who plays the sweet Gabriella in “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2,” alongside Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale, has had a difficult couple of past weeks.
Thanks to unidentified “good-doers,” several supposedly compromising photographs of her have surfaced on the Internet.
The first hint of scandal emerged in early September, when nude photographs of the actress appeared on several websites. They seemed to have been taken by Vanessa herself and were rumored to be a “gift” for her boyfriend.
Vanessa’s apology was swift and to the point: “This was a photo which was taken privately. It is a personal matter and it is unfortunate that this has become public,” her representative told TMZ.com.
A day later, she said: “I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me. I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends.”
A debate followed, weighing pros and cons for her to continue to be associated with the Disney children’s films. Those on her side argued that she was old enough to have such photos and that it did not contradict her goody-two-shoes role as it is just that, a role.
Those questioning the morality of the incident argued that she was not an appropriate role model for her fans.
The whole story had hardly cooled off a bit, when new photos surfaced, again by the doing of some anonymous source. Supposed to be scandalous and sexy, they appeared rather silly and childish.
Disney has accepted Vanessa’s apology, calling the photos “a lapse in judgment” and all the young actors that played in the first two installment of HSM are reportedly in negotiations to appear in the third.
