Disney's "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens is being sued by her former manager/producer Johnny Viera for $5 million, E!Online reported.
Back when Vanessa Hudgens was not the famous actress and singer she is today, she made a deal with Johnny Viera's Johnny on the Spot Productions that required her to share advances, royalties and merchandising revenue in exchange for his career-launching services, Viera, stated in his lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Since Vanessa was minor at the time, Viera, who describes himself as a songwriter and music producer who was "engaged in the business of discovering and developing artists in the music industry," claims that a court approved their agreement.
As evidence, Viera mentioned in legal papers, which were firstly reported by TMZ.com, that the teen star, now 19, gave the producer a photo of herself on which she wrote: "Johnny, thank you for everything, without you, I would be no where, we will make it BIG – Vanessa Hudgens. Sweet."
However, as soon as Vanessa's career skyrocketed with the successful "High School Musical" franchise, which is scheduled to release its third installment later this year, she gave him the boot and owes him $2 million, a sum that is a result of an expensive audit.
Further on, the lawsuit states that, because a court had signed off on the contract, Viera was able to negotiate a settlement with Vanessa in May 2006. But, the plaintiff claims, he could tell at the time that the actress' father Greg "would take every possible opportunity to deprive Viera of the benefits to be derived" from the deal. Still, he was able to receive $90,000 US from Hudgens's advance from Hollywood Records, while he is still owed another $70,000 from another "secret undisclosed advance."
Vieira is demanding more than $5 million and punitive damages from the Disney star. He is also suing Greg Hudgens for defamation, claiming he sent an e-mail to others that accused Vieira of being a "predator."
This is the second blast from the past for Vanessa, who was sued last year by attorney Brian Schall, who claimed Vanessa had agreed to pay him 5 percent of her earnings in exchange for his legal representation since October 2005. The lawsuit, which according to court records was settled in January, about a month after a judge ruled that case could go to trial, claimed the young actress had earned more than $5 million but failed to pay him a balance of $150,000 in legal fees.
In the meantime, Vanessa, who plays the sweet Gabriella in the HSM series, attended her co-star Ashley Tisdale's 23rd birthday bash with her boyfriend Zac Efron where the latter caused a scene by snapping at a photographer who was trying to take pictures of him. According to an eyewitness, a fuming Zac literally jumped across the pool and stormed over to confront the snapper, screaming "Do you wanna picture of me? Do you?"
The actor apologized after finding out the random snapper was actually one of the publicists running the beach house where the party took place.
