Eddie Van Halen is currently facing some undisclosed health problems and requires medical attention, which means his band’s US reunion tour has been postponed, it was announced this week.
Eddie Van Halen, the 53-year-old guitarist and founding member of rock band Van Halen, is currently suffering from an undisclosed illness that prevents him from taking the stage with his reunited band.
Fans, do not despair! The tour has not been cancelled but merely postponed, until the ailed guitarist recovers from whatever it is that troubles him, concert promoter Live Nation announced Monday.
According to Eddie's physician, “he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures,” the company said in a statement.
Four shows which were to take place this week have been rescheduled for next month. Concerts in Dallas, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Raleigh, North Carolina have been reprogrammed for Apr. 24, Apr. 22, Apr. 13 and Apr. 15, respectively.
Tickets for the canceled dates remain valid for the rescheduled dates.
Van Halen enjoyed great success during the 1980s and went through several lineup changes over the course of its existence. The current reunion formula sees original singer Dave Lee Roth perform with the band for the first time in 25 years.
Brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen founded the band in the early 1970s; Roth left the band in 1985 and was replaced with Sammy Hagar; he returned in 1996 to record two new songs for a greatest hits compilation.
The Van Halen brothers and Roth are joined in the current lineup by bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen’s teenage son. The reunion tour has been widely successful, with sold-out shows and positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2007, along with R.E.M., The Ronettes, Patti Smith and Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five.
An enthusiastic Roth, cheeky as ever, assured all during the press conference held last summer to announce the comeback that the band is back for good.
“It’s not like the Police - we're not going to do one tour,” Roth said at the time. “The idea is that it will continue on and on.”
“This is not a reunion - this is a new band,” he added.
