The spiritual wounds caused by the massacre at Virginia Tech, when Seung Hui Cho committed suicide after killing 32 people, have not begin to heal yet, but this didn’t stop two Penn State students to dress up as victims of the horrific incident. They posted a number of photos on Facebook, in which they were shown with fake blood and bullet wounds.

One of the local TV stations in Roanoke, Va., came across one of these pictures and interviewed one of the Penn State students who wore the Halloween costumes.

“It’s not that it was funny. It’s that we are notorious and infamous and very popular in the state college, so we have to do things that push the envelope just for shock value”, the student said in an interview for WSLS-TV. He also implied that the public display of grief shown by Virginia Tech’s students almost a year after this massacre took place wasn’t even that real: “This is a group of college students who now think it’s trendy to be upset about their friends being killer” the student said in the WSLS-TV interview.

In a letter send to Virginia Tech, Penn State officials condemned the actions of the two students: “We're appalled that these individuals would display this level of insensitivity and lack of common decency by dressing up in this manner. The fact that one of the individuals is actually from Virginia makes it even more difficult to understand.”

According to the Center Daily Times newspaper, Lisa Powers, spokesman for Penn State, stated that the students have been identified, but they will not be held responsible for their actions, as this would mean violating their rights to free-speech granted by the First Amendment.

However, if no disciplinary measures have been taken against the students’ actions, the public opinion highly condemns their indifference and lack of decency and solidarity with the families and friends of the 32 victims.

Still according to the media reports, a young woman in one of the widely circulated photos was called in for a discussion with Penn State's judicial affairs officials.
