After the sudden death of Kanye West’s mother due to complications from plastic surgery, reports of Usher’s wife being hospitalized in Brazil after undergoing cosmetic surgery made headlines.
R&B star Usher, who was supposed to join stars like Jennifer Hudson, Whitney Houston and P Diddy to perform at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy Awards party on Saturday, had to pull out due to a “serious illness in the family,” which involved his wife Tameka Foster undergoing surgery in Brazil.
According to a rep for the singer, everyone can sigh in relief as Usher’s wife, who gave birth to the couple’s second child together only two months ago, is in “stable condition.”
“Tameka Raymond is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil,” Usher’s rep said in a statement to Access Hollywood Monday morning. “Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.”
Raymond was being treated at the posh Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed Monday. She did not give her name, citing hospital privacy rules.
All kinds of conflicting reports emerged online, some of them even suggesting that 37-year-old Tameka had died. However, according to sources, she was put in a medically induced coma following the surgical procedure, and a neurologist from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center flew in to South America to examine her. The reason for the surgery was not confirmed.
Usher and Tameka, who served as the singer’s personal stylist, got married in Atlanta in early August 2007. Just months after their wedding, Tameka delivered the couple’s first son, 1-year-old Usher Raymond V. In December she gave birth to the pair's second son, Naviyd Ely Raymond. She is already the mother of three other children from a previous relationship.
Tameka denied reports that she'll be joining the cast of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” the following month.
