This year’s Grammy Awards were neglected not only by Chris Brown and Rihanna, who cancelled their acts the last minute, but by R&B superstar Usher, who skipped a pre-Grammy bash performance to be with his wife, Tameka Foster, who reportedly suffered complications from plastic surgery in Brazil, Access Hollywood reported.
Usher was unable to attend and perform at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party Saturday night citing a family emergency which later turned out to be his wife’s serious complications from plastic surgery. A neurosurgeon from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was reportedly on his way to South America to help treat her.
The 30-year-old singer-songwriter was scheduled to perform at Davis’ annual pre-Grammy bash ahead of last night’s Grammy awards. Davis, who is the head of Usher’s J Records label, announced that the “Trading Places” singer had canceled his performance at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel due to a “serious illness in the family.” He was replaced by Josh Groban.
In a statement to People magazine, Clive Davis said he had talked to Usher’s mother, and that his “thoughts are with them, whatever they’re facing.”
While Usher’s rep hasn’t commented on the reports yet, sources close to the singer denied rumors claiming that Tameka had died.
The singer’s wife of little over a year gave birth to the couple’s second son, Naviyd Ely Raymond, in December. Their first son, Usher Raymond V, was born in November 2007. 37-year-old Foster, who formerly worked as Usher's personal stylist, has three more sons from a previous relationship.
