Usher has “parted ways amicably” with his manager of one
year, Benny Medina, reconciling professionally with his mother, Jonnetta
Patton, who will manage his business from now on.
E! News is reporting exclusively that R&B singer Usher
has returned to his first manager: his mother, Jonnetta Patton. The two ended
their professional collaboration last year amid reports Patton and Usher’s
wife, Tameka Foster, did not get along.
The 29-year-old then hired Benny Medina, a talent manager
that has helped the likes of Sean “P Diddy” Combs, Jennifer Lopez and Tyra
Banks build and maintain strong, enduring careers.
Medina
currently manages the careers of Nicole Richie, Mariah Carey and Rupert
Everett.
Medina
told E! News there were no hard feelings over the break-up. “With an artist
like Usher, the bar is set really high,” the manager said, confessing he had “a
great time” during the collaboration and “parted ways amicably” with the
singer.
E! News also quotes unnamed sources saying the Usher-Medina split
is a result of less than satisfying sales for the crooner’s latest album, “Here
I Stand.”
Looks like Usher is hoping mom will make it all right again.
When Usher released “Confessions” in 2004, momager Jonnetta
Patton was by his side and together they saw the album sell a whopping 19
million copies. By comparison, “Here I Stand” has sold a modest 2 million
around the world since its release in June.
Usher and Tameka Foster married last August. The newlyweds
welcomed a baby boy, Usher Raymond V, later that year in November.
