Uruguay Defends Bolivia And Venezuela Upsets Peru

In Copa America, Venezuela won its first match in 40 years. The Venezuelan team defeated Peru by 2-0 on Saturday and moved into first place in Group A.

In the first half, Venzuela played with a man advantage for 35 minutes after the Peruvian Pedro Garcia was sent off in the 14th minute. Still the first goal came in the second half, thanks to Alejandro Cichero header in the 48th minute.

In the 77th minute, Venezuelan Ricardo Paez was shown a second yellow card for shooting a goal when the referee had already disallowed play for an offside.

Only one minute later substitute striker Daniel Arismendi made it 2-0 for Venezuela with a good, medium-distance shot.

"This team is focused on making history and winning respect on the field," manager Richard Paez said.

In the other match of Group A Uruguay beat Bolivia 1-0 in a bad quality match. The goal was scored by Vicente Sanchez in the 58th minute.

Venezuela faces Uruguay in its final match Tuesday in Merida. On Sunday, Brazil will play against Chile, after losing its first game to Mexico. Mexico will play against Ecuador.
