A West Hollywood homeowner who caused nationwide controversy by hanging an effigy of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin from his house has finally taken down the mock-up doll.
ChadMichael Morrisette thought this year was an appropriate year to throw a little politics into the Halloween and hanged the effigy of Sarah Palin from the noose of his house roof. Another effigy depicted presidential candidate John McCain burning in the house’s chimney.
However, Mr. Morrisette has kept the two effigies on the roof of his house for several days and took them down only after West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang talked with him and his partner personally. Morrisette and his partner invited Mayor Prang into their home for a "heart-to-heart" about their house decorations for Halloween.
The life-size mannequin of Sarah Palin had been hanging from the nose of Morrisette’s house roof for weeks and few people noticed, but after the decoration made it on a news report, it has drawn so much attention that it became a problem for the city. The Secret Service quickly became interested in the problem and politicians expressed their repugnance. One politician called for a hate-crime investigation.
However, the Palin doll doesn’t violate any law according to officials of the Secret Service, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Nevertheless, the effigies of Palin and McCain did bother a lot of people. About six of them went to the home and held up light blue sheets so the passing drivers couldn’t see the offensive decorations. When the two inhabitants of the house asked the six people why are they doing that, they answered that, although they respect them as artists, they are concerned about the fact that the mock-up dolls might have a very bad effect on the community.
