Some extremely alarming results of several studies
investigating global warming were recently released and according to the
scientists involved in the research, there seems to be a very strong connection
between the tropical rains and the human-caused global warming.
Apparently, the heaviest tropical rain registered by the
scientists, is about twice as powerful as the one calculated through the
computer simulations, which were supposed to take into consideration all the
factors.
The study was released by Richard P. Allan of the University
of Reading in England and Brian J. Soden from the University of Miami, and was
published in the online journal Science Express. It involved a careful analysis
of NASA’s archived data about tropical rainfalls over a period of about 20
years. According to the investigations, as the atmosphere is getting warmer,
the amounts of moisture get bigger and this causes a significant boost in the
intensity of downpours.
To make things even worse, the greater amounts of rain will keep
falling in the same regions as before, and as Dr. Soden put it, "The wet
regions will get wetter and the dry regions will get drier."
Such warnings about the risks of extreme tropical rains have
been given for many years, as they pose a great danger for the poor countries
found in the tropic regions, which cannot even deal with the current situation,
let alone what is soon to come, if the scientists are right. Dr. Soden is one
of the people fighting for this cause, saying that "The better your
infrastructure for dealing with extremes, the less vulnerable you are."
