Update: Netflix Partners With TiVo On Streaming Movies

Thursday, Netflix and TiVo have clinched a deal that entails the former’s movies and TV shows are to be streamed on TiVo HD, HD XL and Series3 digital video recorders (DVR).

The official release of the service is scheduled for early December, while the beta testing is due to be kicked off as soon as possible.

Netflix already streams their video content to the LG BD300, Samsung BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 and Roku Player, while a partnership with Microsoft over the latter’s Xbox 360 video game console has been sealed this year and is set for an official roll-out on November 19.

TiVo DVRs owners who are also Netflix subscribers will not be charged extra by neither of the two companies for the streaming service, being able to stream more than 12,000 movies and TV shows directly to their television via a broadband Internet connection.

Only a few days ago, TiVo partnered with both CinemaNow and Jaman to benefit from their streaming services, also, the two having added to a list including Amazon. Com shopping, Amazon’s Video on Demand and Rhapsody.

Founded back in 1999, CinemaNow is a World Wide Web-based digital video distribution company whose library comprises approximately 10,000 feature-length films, shorts, music concerts and television programs from more than 250 licensors such as 20th Century Fox, ABC News, Disney, Endemol, MGM, Miramax, NBC Universal, Sony, Warner Bros., Sundance Channel, Koch Entertainment and Lions Gate Entertainment.

Jaman Company specializes in foreign movies and offers view on demand of video content over the Web.

As for Netflix, they have recently added Apple Incorporated’s Macs to the devices that run their online streaming service. The company has also clinched deals with LG, Samsung and Roku.

Netflix is an online DVD rental service that offers their subscribers flat rate rental-by-mail and online streaming of movies and TV shows. The 1997-founded company has a collection of 100,000 titles and an approximate number of 8.2 million subscribers.

Their most popular fee plan entails charging subscribers a monthly $16.99 (plus tax) for renting up to three DVDs at a time.

On November 19, Netflix is scheduled to launch HD streaming for about 300 movies, which is to be made available to Roku box, Xbox 360 with New Xbox Experience and Blu-ray players users.

TiVo Incorporated is a United States corporation that markets and offers subscription services for their TiVo branded digital video recorder. The latter captures television programming to hard disk storage for later viewing, also featuring an electronic television programming schedule and recording options.

Moreover, TiVo DVRs don’t only record the content their users have previously programmed them to, but also other material the subscriber could take an interest to. In addition, customers can pause live television, while more recent DVRs can be connected to a computer local area network, which enables users to download video content from the Internet.

Currently, the TiVo service is only available to the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (except Québec), Mexico, Australia and Taiwan.
