Update: Fatherhood Inspires Clay Aiken

Former “American Idol” contestant Clay Aiken became a father earlier this summer, when he helped his best friend have the baby she was longing for via in vitro fertilization. Fatherhood seems to have inspired the artist to lead a more transparent life, as suggested by the leaked cover of People magazine’s upcoming issue.

Celebrity site Perezhilton.com published on Tuesday a photo of the magazine’s new cover which features the 29-year-old singer holding his baby boy, Parker Foster Aiken, in his arms, with the following interesting caption: “Yes, I’m Gay.”

The text underneath is a quote from Aiken, saying, “I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things.” We can only imagine that the rest of the interview with People contains more details about Aiken’s long speculated homosexuality.

Of course, a spokesperson for People neither confirmed nor denied that the singer had revealed to the magazine that he is gay. A statement from People does say however, “We can confirm that Clay Aiken and his son appear on the next cover of People. For the complete story, visit people.com at 7 a.m. (EDT Wednesday) (1100 GMT) morning.”

Clay Aiken first gained attention in 2003, when he became a contestant on the most watched reality-competition show in the U. S., “American Idol.” He was runner-up in the second season, losing to Reuben Studdard.

Aiken however has since furthered his musical career nicely. He released his first solo album, “Measure of a Man,” in 2003, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. His latest studio effort, “On My Way Here,” released in early May, debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

He has also hosted various shows such as “The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet” and “Live with Regis and Kelly,” appeared as a guest star on “Scrubs” and currently appears in the Broadway production of “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” Mike Nichols’ comedic musical.

It was music though that brought him and music producer Jaymes Foster together. The two became friends during Aiken’s participation on “American Idol” and later worked together on the singer’s albums.

Foster, 50, is the sister of record mogul David Foster, who confirmed in late May that his sibling was expecting a baby thanks to her best friend, Clay Aiken. “The story is true,” he told the magazine at the time. “It is true Clay is the father. She was artificially inseminated by Clay. She’s due in August.”

In August, when the baby came into the world, Aiken was clearly on cloud number nine. He posted a message on his official website, sharing the happy news with the world, saying, “The little man is healthy, happy, and as loud as his daddy” and confessing he was simply “thrilled.”

It was reported at the time that Aiken and Foster would raise the baby boy together. Jaymes Foster has been divorced for some years now and has no children. Clay Aiken has no other children either.

Aiken has been consistent in avoiding discussions with the media regarding his sexual orientation. He even told Diane Sawyer a couple of years ago that it was “really rude” of her to ask about his sexuality.
