Nick Nolte has escaped from a fire that damaged his Malibu home. According to
the entertainment news site TMZ, the L.A. County Fire Department was called
today at 11:34 AM.
When the firefighters arrived at the scene, Nick Nolte was
fighting to put the blaze off, after he escaped through a window.
The 67 year-old actor has suffered minor injuries and his
rep said for OK! Magazine that no one was injured and there was no structural
damage to the house.
However, the LA Sheriff's department told Associated Press that the damage to the house
is estimated at $3.5 million.
The actor thanked to the Malibu Fire Department and
Sherriff's Department for their quick response.
Nick Nolte became famous after his performance in Rich Man,
Poor Man, the 1976 television miniseries. Since them Nolte a two-time Oscar
nominee, has starred in dozens of major films, including hits such as
Affliction, Prince of Tides, 48 Hours, Jefferson in Paris and Down and Out in
Beverly Hills.
This summer, Nick Nolte was seen in the box office success “Tropic
Thunder” in which he played the role of Four Leaf Tayback, a Vietnam veteran.
Update: The Associated Press reported that Nick Nolte inahaled some smoke, but he was not hospitalized. Also, the Los Angeles County fire Inspector Sam Padilla estimated the damage at $1.5 million.
Apparently, the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction.
Update1: According to media reports the fire broke in the living, while Nick Nolte was in his upstairs bedroom. TMZ said that a faulty printer could be the cause of electrical fire. Also, AP reported that damages include "artwork, collectibles and the furniture."
