A man accused of stalking actress Uma Thurman refused a plea offer that would have sent him to a mental-health institution in exchange to pleading guilty and settle charges against him.

Last month, Jack Jordan, a 35-year-old former mental patient, pleaded not guilty to charges of stalking and attempted coercion, a felony the court would have reduced to a misdemeanor once he completed at least a year of a mental health program. However, according to Jordan's defense lawyers, Jordan is seeking to have the felony charges reduced and serve his time in the mental health facility.

He was freed on a $10,000 bail after being arrested on the charges outside Thurman’s New York home in October, E!Online reported.

Two years ago, Jordan, who is a graduate student at Mills College in Oakland, Calif., unsuccessfully tried to get into the 37-year-old actress’ Manhattan trailer on a movie set, and he was sent by his family to a psychiatric hospital.

Following his release though, he resumed the stalking and extended to Thurman’s family members as well, sending them countless e-mails.  

In August this year, he reportedly made numerous appearances on the actress’ New York home asking to see her, and leaving her notes, in one of which he threatened to kill himself if he would see Thurman with another man.

Jordan now faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
