Academy Award-nominated actress Uma Thurman will marry her boyfriend Arpad Busson, who gave her a gigantic diamond engagement ring. Arpad Busson apparently proposed at the 90th birthday party for Nelson Mandela which took place this week in London. There is no wedding date yet.

Everybody knows Kill Bill and My Super Ex-Girlfriend star Uma Thurman, but who exactly is this Arpad Busson guy? As customary for a high-profile star, he is also rich. Although he was never married, he has two sons with supermodel Elle Macpherson.

Busson is a Swiss financier, the son of another prominent financier father, Pascal Busson. He was named after one of her mother's relatives, Hungarian-born banker Arpad Plesch. Busson started making his money in the 80s, launching into hedge funds and quickly making serious money after the 1987 stock market crash.

Busson quickly set up his own investment company EIM in 1992, attracting some of his prominent clients from Tudor Investments. Now the company has almost 200 employees and has $12.5 billion under management.

Busson also used his influence in the financial world to help children who are victims of abuse, disability, illness and poverty. He thus set up ARK (Absolute Return for Kids), claiming that bringing the entrepreneurial principles developed for business to charity can ensure a strong impact which will transform the lives of children. For example, ARK has taken in the past 1,500 youngsters out of care in Romania and helped treat AIDS victims in Africa.

Busson is allegedly a very devout Catholic. He and Macpherson split after the latter was treated for exhaustion and post natal depression following the birth of their second child. The couple said upon the split that there was no infidelity involved in the breakup. Busson and Macpherson said in 2005 they remained the "greatest of friends".

It looks like Uma Thurman, who was twice divorced (has been married to Gary Oldman and Ethan Hawke) has managed to snatch up a great guy. Let's hope she won't screw things up!
