Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, told Edge-Online that he expects plenty of praise for this week’s Prince of Persia, looking for scores between 8.5 and 9.2 or 9.3. Analysts have been saying it for a long time, it’s very important for a game to be well received by critics. An industry analyst estimated that the accomplished titles that score 9+ from most reviewers sell three times more than a game that scores lower. Guillemot told the media: "Already, there's a number of good marks. We have 8s, some 9s and one 10. But we're still waiting for a lot of marks to come. So altogether, at the moment [scores are around] high 8s. We hope it can be in the 9s, but [we expect] it to be 8.5 and 9.2 or 3."
It seems that one of the big grades came from IGN, which awarded the highly anticipated game a 9.3. Prince of Persia is under development at Ubisoft Montreal, and is slated to release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in early December. Prince of Persia is an action-adventure video game series created by Jordan Mechner. The series had a variety of different developers and publishers and it was rebooted with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, developed and published by Ubisoft. The game was then part of a trilogy, The Sands of Time Trilogy, in which all games have a time-traveling gameplay element. The series will be rebooted again with this year’s Prince of Persia game.
Ubisoft has also made the first official confirmation on Assassin’s Creed 2, one of the company’s best-selling franchises. The game will probably be placed during the French Revolution (1700s), but no release date or any other elements have been disclosed. Ubisoft announced its financial results for the six months ended September 30, 2008, stating that sales were up 31.8%, mostly driven by casual games and the company’s distribution business.
